Isn't it universal for subways/railways? From Moscow to Paris to Saint Petersburg to, IIRC, Berlin, map of exits seems a standard thing for a while now. (A _good_ one, don't get me wrong.)
Moscow has them very consistently (although, of course, there are various… ethical issues about that, starting with "syphoning other regions' resources to make the capital more attractive").

I've been on dozens of systems around the world and can't recall having seen these anywhere else—so I'd say they're far from universal. 🙂
That said, are there any particularly good examples that come to mind for you? I'd love to see more!
